Less than a week left til we depart!

I think we pretty much have our plans set for our first week…

Thursday: We’re expected to arrive at 10:05PM local time. A rep from the volunteer organization is going to pick us up and drive us to our accommodation, Hanoi Guesthouse, in the city’s Old Quarter.

Friday: Spend the day getting acclimated to the time change and heat while exploring the city!

SaturdayMonday: Depart at 8AM for a 3 day/2 night Halong Bay cruise with Handspan Travel. This should be uber exciting because we’ll get to cruise and kayak through Halong Bay (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and Bai Tu Long Bay while also visiting some floating villages along the way! The first night will be spent on the ship; however, we’ll spend the second night at the Sunrise Resort on Cat Ba island.

Tuesday: Day trip to Perfume Pagoda.

Wednesday: Continue seeing the sites in Hanoi. We might arrange a cooking class or decide to go visit handicraft villages just outside the city. In the afternoon/evening, we’ll be picked up and transferred to our volunteer accommodations.

Thursday: Orientation!

Friday: First day of volunteering!

  2. Oh my goodness...this is an unbelievable trip. So many young adults travel alone, so I am glad to have the opportunity to travel with Allison. Only problem is she is meeting some nice guys from all over the world. This is crazy. Allison is making fun of the red hat I bought today for the bike ride and a 1/2 hr boat trip. It is really really hot and sunny for the rainy season. Claire would not let me bring a hat I had at home. What is it with my kids and hats...I bought it anyway and loved it. Wait till you see the pics.
